The Giver chapter 13-16

What I Read in the Week

In these part of the book Jonas was learning a ton of new things from the memories, but some of them were ´painful and some were beautiful and made Jonas joyful like the color memory. Some times Jonas enjoyed going to the Annex room where he received the memories, but some times when he enter The Giver send him away,  The Giver decides to give a painful memory to Jonas. The memory was like the snow one but these time he felt from the sleight then Jonas understood how painful could memories be, that same day Jonas decide that baby Gabe would sleep with him, but baby Gabe was not able to sleep so Jonas came beside him and put he´s hand in Gabriel´s bare back, Jonas started thinking a a beautiful memory that the Giver had gave to him, and the that memory was gone from Jonas head. One day that Jonas enter to the Annex room he could notice that the Giver was suffering with a memory, Jonas wanted to help The Giver so he decides to take that memory.

In these chapters of The Giver, the word choices are not as complicated as in other chapters.
As in other chapter I have empathy towards Jonas, I agree with him in the part he says That without colors theres no choices.
How can baby Gabe be able to receive Jonas' memories? Is baby Gabe going to be a receiver of memory?

In these chapters of The Giver we are focus on the memories, specifically  in painful ones. The Giver had been an interesting book, because when you read further you see it in another perspective Jonas' world.
These part we can start seeing the difficulties of being the receiver of memory. and the pain it is. In these parts of the book you could see the importances of the memories, because some memories are beautiful and some are really pain full.

In these chapters we can see the suffer of the Giver because of the memories, because memories are really strong, and some you would never forget.
Something I gad realize is that in Jonas society people didn´t had real memories, or they don´t had strong memories.

Chapters 9- 12

What I read in the week

In these chapters Jonas life starts changing because he had been choose to be the Receiver of memory, and he needed to work alone.  Now Jonas was not allow to play with he´s friends or tell anybody about he´s assignment. Some things in he´s life where still the same like going to school, but now instead of having he´s volunteer hours now he needed to go with the Receiver. The first time Jonas went to he´s assign place of training, Jonas was scared because he was remembering what the chief elder had said about he´s work, that was going to be painful,. Jonas work consisted of receiving the memories that an old man that was called The Giver give to him.

Jonas and The Giver of memory

In this chapters we can find that people in Jonas community is restricted to do many things like for example seeing in color, here is a quote that shows that people don´t see in color "You`re beginning to see the color red" (Lowry 94). Talking about color I would like to state something out, that colors are impossible to explain because our language is not precise enough to describe them, so if you try to explain someone that is blind would not understand it if he had never seen color, thats what happened to Jonas thats why he is so confuse when the giver tells him about color.
In this chapters Lowry uses some complicated words but you surely had hear them like flesh, apartness and exhilarating.
Vocabulary:
Exhilarating: To make cheerful or merry

In this chapter I can relate to Jonas, because I´m always learning new things like he is only that he is alone, I would be really depress to not be able to talk with my friends about those amazing new things.
Something that I would really want  to find out is if the Giver is going to be realeased or something like that, because in The Receivers rules where one that said that they couldn't be realesed.

This picture shows how Jonas saw the world
because he sees in white and black and sometimes he is able to see the color red.

During these chapter I had been questioning about whats going to happened next in the book, the book is really interesting till these point because in these chapters it had been reveled that the community was controlled. Are those things like that they can´t see in colors are for elders to avoid the citizens to be able to see the real world?

The Giver Chapters 5-8

What I Read in the Week

In The Giver chapter 5 to 8, Jonas start having the stirrings, and the big ceremony of ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes, sevens, eights, nines, tens, elevens, and finally the ceremony of twelves.
Jonas had start having stirrings, those are some strange dreams. Jonas would start taking the pills so the he would not have strings anymore, he´s friend named Asher took the pills too.
That day was special to Jonas, because it was the day of the ceremony. Jonas was going to be selected for he´s new job, he was exited and worried, when it was Jonas´ turn the elder skipped its tour. At the end of the ceremony they announce Jonas, he was choose to be the new Receiver.

In these chapters Loist Lowry uses some complicated words such as stirrings, the meaning is simple as say its a dream.
I can compare myself to Jonas when he is at the ceremony, because Jonas is really scared when the elders had skipped he´s number. I compare myself to Jonas because one day they where taking attendance and they skipped my name.
Something I had been struggling with is, what those having pale eyes mean?
I would like to state out the fact that the old man that was watching Jonas in the ceremony had pale eyes, as well Jonas did and baby Gave. Can it be possible that they have something like relationship, like something meaningful.
I had  been questioning while I was reading the book, why do kids are choosen for their jobs really young?

Til these point, the book is really interesting, there is a lot of suspense.
In the book there are some mysterious characters, that I think later in the book they would pay an important role. For now some characters are not really meaningful, but later those characters would make more sense for being there.
I had been questioning in the part the Elder says what must a Receiver must have and it says something about  seeing beyond. What does it really means seeing beyond? Does that has to do whith the changing apple?

The Giver Chapter 1- 4

The Giver starts when Jonas was in he´s house, he was frighten, then he remembering about an aircraft that had passed so close to the community, in that moment he was scared. He decide he´s feelings where not those, he was not really frighten, he had a different feeling. There was a ceremony coming soon, that was not a normal ceremony it was the ceremony of twelves, in that ceremony their future work would be decided. Later in the afternoon hes parents where going to make the feelings ritual, in witch they have to share their feelings. Then all he´s famiy finish with their feelings, it was Jonas tourn, he had really complicated feelings. Later Jonas had a private conversation with he´s parents about the ceremony of twelves, where he was going to  recive he´s new work. He´s parents where talking about their works, Jonas´ father was a Nurturer (the one that takes care of newchildren) and he´s mother work in the law and justice center.

Then Jonas´father got out a baby, it was he´s work to nurture the baby, the baby had lighter eyes like Jonas did "Almost every citizen in the community had dark eyes.2 (Lowry 20).

Jonas made like the baby wasn´t important and keep doing he´s homework, then he heard he´s sister talking, she talked alot she was thinkingthat she should be assign Speaker, then he start laughting only imagning her sister making an  announcement. In that moment Jonas remeber about a day at school were he was huiliated in an announcement, he´s name was not mentioned but that message was directly to him, he remembered that moment with humiliation. Jonas also rememberd about the vouluntary hours (where they go and experience the diferent things they could be assigned), that day when the incident happend. In that affternoon he had whent for he´s vouluntary hours to the house of the old were he help an old lady to take a shower, they talked about how the olds where realized.

The book is really interesting to read, because you don´t have any clue whats going to happen. I reale feel related to Jonas carácter, because he has a lot of questions in he´s mind, I have always questions im my mind, some that i never get to answer myself.
I really want to know what does released reers to or what happends when you are released. I would also want to know for what does Asher would be choosen to be when he tourns twelve.
I would be wanting to know what does the Givers do in their Jobs.
I´m really interested on reading the next chapters.

Chapter 4 ends in the house of the old, when Jonas was helping an old lady to take a bath. They where talking about the releasing ceremony. Nobody knew what really reaalese was. I released that the peolpe in Jonas´ community had fear to be realeased at a young age (not old).
There were some announcements that were for someone on especific but they didn´t mentioned the names. All the things that where announced where always made by the members of the community.
I can conclude saying that the people was controled, but who control them?

The Giver

1. I think the book The Giver would be about the life of this boy named  Jonas  and how he discovers that he´s world is not perfect as he thinks.

2. In the dedication page of The Giver Lowry says "For all the children To whom we entrust the future". I think Lowry tries to state out that the future is in our hands, in education. Lowry could also refer  that future is always made up of new decisions.

3. I think that in the book would happen that Jonas would be choose to make a work that would help all the community, and for that he would need to travel all around he`s world, and discovers in what big deal its planet is at.

4.
This is how Jonas world could look like
